We had a wonderful vacation at Costa Rica this December
(2013) and our itinerary was as follows:
Day 1 –
Landed at Liberia and travelled to La Fortuna by car
(about 4 hrs drive) . Checked in at Arenal Volcano Inn
Day2 –
Morning - Wild Life Boat Safari tour. This was a relaxing
boat ride in Peñas Blancas river near Arenal volcano watching the wild life. We
were fortunate to come across many animals including a crocodile.
Afternoon – Arenal Volcano Hike . This was a few kilometers
hike to the Lava site.
Evening – Pedido Hot springs.
Day 3 –
Morning Sky Tram (Zip Lining) tour in Arenal volcano Rain
Forest. We just watched the zip line as we are not sure whether we can do it
(next day we did Zipline in Buena Vista tour)
Afternoon – We travelled back to Liberia area and stayed in the
beach town Playa Hermosa at Hotel Villa del
Sueno.
Day 4 –
All day trip – Buena vista adventure tour in Rincon de la
Vieja Mountain area which is about 2 hours from Liberia. This was a wonderful
tour with Zip lining and Water slide in the morning and after a fabulous lunch
, horse riding , mud bath and hot springs in the afternoon. This tour was
arranged by Jacamar Tours.
(Evening we had dinner
at Hotel Ginger at Playa Hermosa and the food was awesome with many vegetarian options)
Day 5 –
All day tour to Monteverde Cloud Forest. This tour included
visit to Butterfly garden, Reptiles garden, Hummingbird garden and a 3 Km hike
over hanging bridges in Selvatura Park. We left our hotel by 8 am and returned
by 10 pm. It is about 4 hours bus ride each way. There were options to do zipline, coffee tour
etc. instead of butterfly /reptile garden. Both Lunch & dinner were included
in the tour. (The better option is to travel to Monteverde from La Fortuna and
stay there for a night but we could not get lodging in Monteverde due to last
minute travel plans)
Day 6 –
Visited the beach in the morning and return flight in the
afternoon.
